The
Difference In Counseling and Coaching
While counseling is considered a mental health profession,
coaching is not. Counseling can explore issues in breadth and depth, including emotional concerns and lifelong patterns, and
it can also incorporate coaching techniques as needed to help make changes. In the State of North Carolina, only practitioners
with at least a Master’s degree and approved training can be licensed to offer counseling.
Coaching is more
limited in scope than counseling, but it can be highly effective in helping people establish and achieve their personal or
professional goals. Coaching is not licensed or monitored by any North Carolina state board and does not require specific
credentials. Some coaches have attended coach-training programs while others establish themselves by virtue of their experience.
I offer coaching out of both experience and specific training.
