Dr. Barbara Birge combines
a rich basis in psychological knowledge with a high degree of pragmatism.
As
a psychotherapist since 1991 and as a personal and professional coach, she loves working intensively with individuals and
couples who want to better their lives, careers and capabilities. Before pursing her interest in psychology professionally,
she established a successful career in advertising, thriving on rolling
up her sleeves, identifying business problems and developing strategic solutions. Her creative work has been honored in some
of that industry’s most prestigious award shows.
This
acquaintance with two very different worlds lets Barbara understand first hand the highly competitive business arena in which
many of her therapy and coaching clients live and work. And from her years in advertising, she brings rigorous, disciplined
and creative thinking to every encounter.
Beyond
her professional capacities, Barbara has dedicated her energies to numerous causes. She has served on the North Carolina Humanities
Council, the Board of Directors of the Greater Carolinas Chapter of the American Red Cross, the board of missions of Myers
Park Baptist Church in Charlotte, and the board of directors of The Charlotte Friends of Jung. She has been awarded the North
Carolina Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service for her public service advertising work. Additionally, she
is certified by the Red Cross as a Disaster Mental Health Worker and has aided disaster victims.
With expertise in treating trauma, Barbara is certified in the use
of EMDR and is also experienced in clinical hypnosis. She works extensively with dreams and remains intrigued by unconscious
influences in our lives, believing they are a powerful source of information that can help to shape our most important decisions.
Dog lover, weekend painter, haphazard gardener and
travel enthusiast, she believes strongly in the importance of bringing beauty, creativity and curiosity into our lives along
with a rich dose of humor, play and pleasure.
