Helping people deal
with anxiety and depression, exploring relationship issues and work satisfaction, enhancing personal fulfillment, or even
using hypnosis to alter habits, reduce fears or control stress – these are some of the ways I seek to help people
in counseling.
Having conducted psychotherapy for over 15 years, I believe in offering many ways to help
people understand themselves and create more choices in life. Instead of applying the same theory or techniques to everyone,
I work very individually in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust. In my experience, this is the best way to help people
make the changes they authentically desire and to become who they want to be.
With our busy lives, it is rare for
people to feel truly listened to or to have the chance to explore important personal issues, and I strive to provide that
opportunity while helping people reach practical solutions to real problems.
On a one-to-one basis, I help people address a wide variety of concerns such as:
- self-defeating thoughts and behavior
patterns
- difficulty in relationships
- depression and anxiety
- grief and loss
- traumatic experiences and memories
- the feeling
that something is missing in life
- major life transitions such as separation,
divorce, job changes and retirement
- changes such as weight loss, smoking
cessation and improved performance
- realizing greater personal potential
My approach ranges from pragmatic problem solving to ongoing
personal exploration and can include in-depth discussion of issues, using theories such as cognitive psychology, classical
Jungian psychology and positive psychology, and even analyzing dreams.
I also utilize hypnosis in some cases where desired, and I am certified in the use of EMDR, which
is endorsed for the treatment of trauma. In addition, I provide coaching services where appropriate.
In practice since 1991, I am a North
Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor, a National Certified Counselor and a Distance Credentialed Counselor, which means
I am able to work via phone and Internet as appropriate.
In overcoming difficulties and becoming fully ourselves,
it is my hope that we can bring more creativity and curiosity into our lives along with a rich dose of humor, play and pleasure.
